why not just look for a bigger tunnel from another car and replace your tunnel

here's my 2 cents ......
By all means cut the tunnel out if necessary but re-use it as well. Section your original tunnel and add strips to increase height and width etc. ie a 2" strip welded into the centre will give the extra width, but will retain the 'moulded' shape of the tunnel. Same for height obviously. In my experience, fabricating a new tunnel is a bit of a job and you will end up with a hard edged structure rather than a smooth flowing shape. If you get stuck I can help you out along the way.

I cut the tunnel out of my ute and I'm just going to get some sheet metal and mould to the desired shape then weld in.

Otherwise look for a 180b or bluey or something like that and tax the tunnel out of that and cut it all out and fit up your new one and weld in. Sounds simple but it won't be unless you do this for a living.

im pulling my SR out atm and im runnin a sedan auto tunnel thats been welded in.. g./box fits fine but still a 5lu7 to get out man drop engine crossmember to get the box off? haha

yeah andrew i thought about that and i was going to still cut it out just to make it easier to get the gearbox in and out, i was pretty much also thinking about the future and if i have to change the gear box etc.
or is it still easy enough to get the gear box in and out with just cutting a bit of the tunnel out???

You wont have to cut the whole tunnel out (Fairly big job) you should just cut the rear section out where shifter comes out like I showed you. That and massage the rest to clear the box. wont need too much as it will sit pretty low in the front.

thats what i did. i got a tunnel from another car, you could do that or make it yourself. it takes a bit of time, and is a bit frustrating... but what isn't with a conversion!

just wondering how many people have modified their tunnel themselves
im putting a ca18det into a 1200 ute and ive had a hunt around and no-one wants to do the tunnel
i was thinking on cutting it all out, dropping the motor and gear box in and making the tunnel around that. sound good or is there an easier way to go about it
