I'm starting to become keen on the CA16DE. More so cause its still a Nissan engine and its a 1.6ltr. Apparently if my research is correct, we can get a Datsun gearbox behind it too.
Engineering it too shouldn't be as hard in my B20!

GA16DE is available in B14, 115HP factory. 7,200 rpm redline.

There are RWD 5-speeds for GA16 (71-series big transmission).

My wife had what was in the USA Pulsar NX 16 valve 1600cc Twin Cam, the motor worked fine. I don't remember if this was the GA16I or the CA16DE designation...................the swap doesn't sound all that straight froward to me.

its depressing how someone even related the boat anchor head cracking e series to the bulletproof ga series engines. The ga16, although no rocket, is a bulletproof beast rarely giving issues. 120hp out of the models fitted to n15 or 110hp in the n14 models. I personally wouldnt custom fit one into a datsun due to the lack of performance parts. good engine but leave them in the sentras. It also doesnt help the lack of a factory rwd option.

pfft ga16 in a 1200 easy ive put one in my 1200 ute! it wasnt too hard just need access to a gud work shop.first ditch the a15 keep the box mines a 60a then line it up with the ga16 the dowel holes line up and so do three bolt holes,u can make a few more holes work, u have too cut around 12mm of the end of the imput shaft and make a new spigate bush.the hardest part is the fly wheel and starter motor,i used the a12 fly wheel spun a bigger spiget re drilled holes to suit the ga and took 2mm of the front, then lost another 3 kg of meatl for good measures.too get the starter motor too fit i had too chop a bit outa the block ,then but the a series starter motor in a lathe and took 4 mm of the face that bolts too the gear box,in doinig all this it heeps the starter motor fully contacting on the fly wheel teeth. then notch the cross member a little and make new engine mounts and u have an ga16 sitting in a 1200

Does this engine not come in a 2000's model Nissan Almera? (ZA it is called Almera.I think on your side it is called Pulsar).
My other car is a Almera and it has a 1.6.
I just don't know the engine code.
It has a black tappet cover and clearly says "Nissan" and also "16 valve".
Is this not the same engine?

all i know about this motor is that it came in the ga16 version which was single cam, carb. , the ga16e, that was the single point injection , not sure if there was the multi point but there was for a 1.8 and the ga16de which kinda dose look like the sr but is deffinitly not.

if the a-series and e-series used the same or similar fwd boxes, which makes it possible to make a e series rwd then you should sus out the box to see if it is similar to the e-series if old mate from the wreakers said that they use same or similar bottom ends

id say these motors arnt to bad as i no for a fact that the 1.8l n14 pulsars ( which i think belong to the same family as the 1.6) go hard and do good skids becouse my mates mum has one

The missus and myself have a 98 Pulsar powered by a GA16DE. They aren't a bad little motor at all. Ours has got 170000kms on it and does not use oil at all.
When we got it (at 135000kms) it made 46kw's at the wheels. It was running that poorly it wasn't funny, it still had the original fuel filter on it. After a few modifications and a bit of servicing, it makes 72kw's at the wheels and ran a 16.2 at WSID recently.
They are nuts for GA16's in the states, look them up on sentra.net . The next stage with the pulsar we are buying a UD Pulley, Cams, phantom grip and i've already got the throttle body and it is going to be run by a new Emanage. Hopefully will be running low 15's.
It's no weapon, but it's good fun.
