cmon ange... you can do it.. we are all waiting for a rotor ute to join the fold... may inspire others of us....
personally i still love the f20c from the s2000.... just still too expensive for a front cut.... good work and im sure it will all be worth it

well guys....
after raising the gearbox a little more... and replacing the worn series 2 box with a reco series 4 rx7 gearbox... the problem improved but did not go away... after some advice from a bloke with a rotorolla i found that my tailshaft was too short... it had 40mm play in it rather than the 25mm i needed.... with the new tailshaft having the extra length into the gearbox, it has taken up the bit of slop it used to have and rid my ute of the vibration problem... wish i had noticed that earlier... and also wish the bloody tailshaft guy would have seen that when it was on his hoist... anyway im not sure who's stuff up it was becuase i gave him the measurement for the original tailshaft but dont know if that measurement was wrong or the shaft itself becuase i didnt bother to measure it when i got it back (a lesson for us all) anyway not to worry its all fixed now... time to get stuck into it and finish it off and have the engineer do his thing... thanks again to all those who helped with this problem... your help is very much appreciated and i hope i can return the favour......

yep im with you now...
hopefully it will put a stop to the vibration also

i dont know what u mean by that... raising the box is going to make everything closer to the top of the tunnel.. If you were only to correct the pinion angle itself. ( to the angle I believe is required )The rear of the tailshaft would be high in the tunnel. Lowering the ute would make it even higher in the tunnel. During suspension travel, it would get even closer.

prevent it hitting the tunnel later on when you lower the ute further. i dont know what u mean by that... raising the box is going to make everything closer to the top of the tunnel.. but yeah eliminating possible causes is what im trying to do thanks for the help so far

Sounds good, You gotta eliminate all the possible causes.
Raising the box further will ultimately reduce the angle of the tailshaft itself and help prevent it hitting the tunnel later on when you lower the ute further.

while i didnt have any special measuring tools.. i increased the pinion angle up in different amounts... the best result (not that is was a good one) ending up with a 5mm spacer in between the leafs and the front of the diff mounts..
the pinion angle was visually greater than the angle on the output shaft.. and yet the vibration was still there... this is what has made me think the play in my output shaft doesnt agree with my angle... so trying another gearbox is what i plan to do but while it is out i might as well try to make more room to get the box higher... because once im done with the conversion i wish to lower the rear of the ute an inch which is going to make the angle greater again..

i have a slight driveline vibration which only occurs above 60-70kph and only when not under load..ie if you put the clutch in to change gear.. when accelerating theres no vibration... Datsik I believe you are reading it as "if you put the clutch in to change gear when accelerating theres no vibration." It happens when under no load. Basically thats anything where the car isn't accelerating or maintaining a constant speed. Tailshaft man says put box higher. Raising the pinion angle will equal doing this. Any forwards load will cause the pinion angle to raise. No load keeps the pinion angle down - this is where we have a vibration occuring. Its only noticable from 60kph. Well we know how a vibration from a wheel comes and goes - this gives reasoning to why the vibration might not be evident below 60kph. Do you think basic physics of 2 unis on a shaft might have relevance to this ? I do and judging by your comment below, so do you. Quote: if it's when your coasting, it sounds like theres some slack somewhere, when you get on the gas the slack gets taken up. I dont really think it would be out of ballance wheels. Ange said that when using spacers to angle the pinion, the vibration wasnt felt till round 80kph. That tells me that more upwards angle is required on the pinion. 1200coupe 0.002inch, I bet you were relieved when you finally found that. Bet the dial indicator was only brought out after every other 101 possible causes were checked. You can view topic.
