it's probably not the idle air correctors, if it were those it wouldn't vary.

First use a can of carb cleaner and spray around the outside of the carb and see if the idle changes, that will tell you if you have a vacuum leak ( most likley )

Pretty sure the shaft had no play when I put it on. Will check again though. After doing some reading it might be the Idle Air Correctors which i did not know about.

Primary throttle shaft. On the accelerator cable end, can you move it up and down?

This creates an airleak. Could also be a sticky float/needle and seat.

Could be something else. . .

I am in the process of trying to get another old Weber 32/36 running on the A12 and have come across an interesting symptom I cannot solve. When idling the car idles anywhere from 500-1500 then 1000-2000 then 200-1200 in a repetitive circuit style fashion. What could be causing this and why will it not idle constant?
