I can concur aswell. Not quite as bad as ade's experience but a rear main and sump gasket later I realised the problem. It is quite easy to do in car too. Just take off the swaybar and slide the samp forwards. Even jack the engine a little if you must.

Yep, it's the small details that bite!! Seal the seal in - that is, seal the rear seal perimeter as the rear main cap will leak where it joins the block, go around the seal until it escapes. Mine leaks like a bugger because I didn't do it!! Too lazy to take the box and flywheel off to seal it. Once you have an A series flywheel stuck on right, you are a little reluctant to change it
Cheers

Did you use sealant on the rear main bearing ?? The gregories (or similar) rebuild book I used seemed to leave that vital peice of information out of it.
The rear main bearing cap has chamfered corners on it. If you don't use a good quality silicon type sealant in the corners as you assemble it, it will leak guarenteed !! It will run down the foward face of that plate between the engine and box. I'm not sure you could do a proper job at fixing that with the engine in the car...we pulled ours out!

Make sure the crankcase ventilation is working ok, PCV valve etc, as it will build up presure & blow oil out, also check the sump & rocker cover they often come loose, other wise its gearbox out for & new seal after checking the crank for scoring, & maybe a speedy sleeve if it's scored bad.
