#28 Re: I need a diff to handle 4agze (supercharged)

The trick is to face the side gears first. They may apear to be flat, but they wont run true. then make your plate like the one in the picture. Mill the slot where the pin runs, then surface grind the backs of the plates, untill you have just 1-2 thou of clearance between the belly of the slot and the pin. If you have trouble finding springs, there is and old semi retired guy here in CHCH who made some for me. you will probably find that the plates you end up with are more rectangular than square. mine uses two springs side by side at each end, and one more just outside them. the more preload, the better. Then you can reduce the height of it enough to allow room for the shims which prevent the plates contacting with the idlers.

Hey A14force I would be real keen on the info on how to make one as Ive got a mate who is an engineer and owes me a favour or two. Could you email me at qhamill@parkside.co.nz. Thanks. I thought about the ae86 diff but I had enough trouble trying to find one for my ae85 and then there would be all the converting to leaf springs etc which would make it real expencive, in saying that TRD stuff seems al ot cheeper than NISMO for some reason?!

Why not go for an AE86 GTS axle with factory LSD?

If you've got the means to make one yourself/know someone who can make one for you, I'll send you all the info I have on making them. The guy who helped my make mine reckons people are lining up for them, but untill we try mine to see if it works , he's isn't game to sell anybody else one. If your not in any great rush, maybe he could do one for you after we are sure that they work

Thanks for the offer Adam but where are you? Im in NZ and I dont recognize your number. Im real keen on the idea of the phantom grip but I dont know enough about how it works and I cant seem to find any one selling one for a H165 so I have no idea of the price or how to get one.

The other alternative to LSD is a phantom grip. I have one in my H165, but haven't yet put the diff in the car.

I believe only the r31 sillouette diffs are LSD.
bluebird H190 is 3.9 is it not?
