I now have my new dizzy from datrats and went out to buy a Bosch GT40 coil got it home then was reccomended by a mate to swap it for a GT40T coil now I read on the box to use it only in a contact points ignition set up so I think I will take it back for the third time and swap it for a HEC715 coil as it is reccomended on the Bosch PDF for the nissan bluebird series 2 which is the same distributor I bought

The factory distributors do not use a capactive discharge system.

Some of the Datsun systems used a points coil with the electronic distributor. In this case, the ballast resistor is still used. With the resistor, the voltage will not be too high.

For best results with the blackbox A15 factory distributor, use coil Nissan part number 22433-H7280 or equivalent (Bosch 00200). This should work with most Mitsubishi or Hitachi distributors that don't use a ballast resistor. For a list of part numbers, see B310 Electronic Distributor Swap.

Don't use a points coil with an electronic dizzy. They generate much higher back voltages (EMF) that can damage the dizzy electronics. You need to use a coil designed for electronic dizzy. Best to get the coil that was in the car that the dizzy came from and you know you have a matched pair. I asked Bosch if they could recommend one of their coils for use with the E15 dizzy but their response was that they did not recommend any of them. Barry

you should get yourself a 12V coil, if the one you are using is NOT. i originally used a mazda 323 coil for a while then went to the matching coil (which was a subaru model from the 80's) when i changed to the N12 dissy.
all the while i was using a full 12v system, without the ballast. i was originally using a JayCar HEI kit, then went full electronic ignition when I got my hands on the N13 dissy.
basically, if your coil heats up enough(too hot to touch), it is BAD. test it

The VL coil has the same fittings as the standard unit.

Your distributor sounds like a stock unit
which came with the car. The ignitor is usually
built inside the distributor.

If so, it is probably the capacitive discharge type,
and will need an "electronic" type coil suited to
electronic ignition systems.

In Malaysia, you can usually buy this at spare parts
shops, under the "Diamond" brand. I think it is
used without a ballast resistor.
