Thanks for the responses.
1.There never was a fj20 that had a single cam head. 2. I already own a fj20e non turbo motor, I chose that over a SR because the non turbo fj's are really hard rev'ers, and i'd put money on one lasting longer than a Sr20de. 3. I've got a S12 inlet manifold with the shorter runners so that would help slightly with clearance of clutch master + brake master. 4. Wouldnt be to worried about gbox bolt clearances, as i've found that its usually easy to pull the whole motor / box out if anything needs changing (clutch etc). I've already had a look at the 1200 feature cars on fj20.com, but none really specify whats involved in regards to the conversion itself. Thanks for the input Cheers Martin

Mainly want to know the hardest part of the conversion. e.g. does steering need mods? booster? i havent heard of any steering mods being necessary... booster is a matter of preference to require less pedal effort when braking.. although i dont think you would fit a booster in with the fj unless it was remotely mounted.. most difficult mods would be transmission tunnel, and getting your brake master/clutch to fit in whilst clearing the fj's intake.. i dont know much about the fj conversion but i have seen some fj 1200's with remote brake master cylinders.. and others with custom or alternate intake plenums used... good luck

Beacause its a single cam head. The D stands for double overhead cam.
D = Double overhead cam E = Injected T = Turbo TT = Twin Turbo

Is there a known reason why Nissan never called it a FJ20DET?

my mate up in qld is just installing his fj20et into his 1200 ute,
its a very tight fit i think u will find that u will have 2 postition the motor in the bay after cutting existing a12 mounts off 2 work out sump clearances and if the steering needs 2 be moved ect i would cut out firewall 2 allow little more work area around the bell housing ect as its tight as with a ca18 . im 99% sure u cannot buy a off the shelf kit for the fj20 conersion.

yes, its been done. there was a ute for sale last week on here.
it was a FJ20ET. i would ask why an FJ? a SR has a lot more potential and a wider aftermarket following than the old FJ. also lighter and smaller. for that litle bit extra price up front, u can have an engine that will cost u less in the long run. the sump should be ok. the tranny tunnel will need a new hole for the shifter (shifter more towards handbrake on FJ 'box) have a look at Maddat they make kits for the FJ into 510. perhaps a rough sketch for ur 1200 can be drawn from what they offer. cheers and let us know how u get on You can view topic.
