nah, honda normally keep engines the same between here and the states (japanese hondas usually are more tuned) the only thing that mite be different is brakes and that sorta stuff.

VTEC was an early and crude form of variable valve timing not over here in the states. here in the states honda has only been produceing the vtech and ivtech engines for the last 7-8 years. and the have just come out with the i-vtech, are the cars over there that much different?

yeh no worries casper. its a bit hard to explain without diagrams but i think i got the message across.
i spose the corvette u wanted to know about has 3 different grinds on the cam per cylinder if u can put that key thing in 3 different places. Quote: VTEC was an early and crude form of variable valve timing VTEC maybe old but it is still the most reliable and gives the greatest push in the back. also it has the biggest aftermarket following out of all the VVT engines.

enuff bitchin! im not to sure how the Corvette system works but hondas VTEC system has only 1 set of cams (2 cams in total). each cam has 3 lobes but 2 different lobe grinds on the cam. the standard 1 for nortmal driving and then the long duration one that kicks in for spirited driving.
the cams dont change timing at all, instead it is the rockers that change to allow the cams lumpy lobe to kick in. a pin is hydraulically shot through the 3 rockers (yes 3. one in the middle of the 2 normal ones for eack valve) that lock the 2 outter rockers to the one in the middle where the lumpier lobe runs. thus the lumpier grind now is the only rocker that has contact with the cam and the valves now open and close with the longer duration and higher lifting grind of each cam... simple! this is the same on both exhaust and intake cams the pin is controlled by the engines computer and is set to a certain rpm. you can buy aftermarket units from apexi (AVC-R: acutator valve controller type R) and many other companies around the world that allow you the driver to change at what rpm the lumpier cam kicks in. hope this helps

sorry for it being off topic. i was just curious about the injection pulse control thing because it sounds like a good idea for a feul injected nissan enine, and i was curious if you could use 8 injectors instead of 4 like how the zr1 has two inectors per cylinder.
oh and phunk, please bless my datsun with optimal power and efficiency, and make it everlasting! AMEN

There are no Datsun or Nissan "vtec" engines, only Honda engines use VTEC technology as far as I know. VTEC was an early and crude form of variable valve timing (though it worked well enough). The Nissan Neo VVL engines are better technology-wise, and I think some of the newest Nissan engines are even better.
Speaking of which, is anybody running a VVL engine in their 1200?

Looking at Corvette forums should answer your question, but since Datsun nutters are all fairly intelligent and knowledgable folk, I can guees the switching you talk about is the valet switch used to control power when loaning the car to your kids or getting it parked. The Lotus designed engine is not like a VTEC Honda as has already been written, all the cams are driven all the time. Power is cut controlling the injector pulses I think, though I could be wrong as it's been a while since I was in the Corvette forums
Oh and Phunk your holiness can you please hurry up and infest my bosses arsehole with boils, as I have been asking nicely for some time now...thank you God...

i have a kinda off topic question You could ask in the "Off Topic" forum, that way everybody not interested in off-topic posts can ignore it. Anyways, Bobs1200 gave a technically accurate reply, there's your answer. For more information on the ZR1, here's the web site that will lead you to the answers: Corvette ZR1. It's best if you limit your discussions here in the Main Forum to something relevant to Datsun 1200s (or the Sunny siblings).
