Go the long term projects. I bought my 'other' coupe in 1968 & it will be with me to the end. I'm still gathering parts for it & I am pi***d off with the Australian Customs who recently sent about $1,200[US] worth of hemi engine parts back to the US without notifying me. I will probably have to pay the freight back there then back here again just so I can have the privelige of paying import duty & BST [blood sucking tax] on it. The things we do for love.

heck yes its been worth it, and its worth alot more in the verry near future and the distant future. the way i see it, an old car with modern technology is way better than a new car . only becuase as everyone knows "they dont build them like they used too" my 78 datsun B-210 is WAY sturdier than ANY car that on the market now. and i can add almost any form of technology to it i want. plus, my b210 not only is EXTREEMLY rare where i live(my town and state) but it is also a verry well built rear wheel drive car that is a ton of fun to drive. it was my first car and i hope i die with it running stil. i want my car to be built so well that it outlasts me. theres no point in spending 30,000+ $$ on a car that will only last 10 or less years.n

Yes has been worth it. When you inspire inspriation in others to do thier dattos, get all the good comments and looks and thumbs and waves. Not to mention the fun of driving and enjoying the datsun!...
Yes there are times when you get the stinks with it, but those moments are short lived compared to the long lived enjoyment ....

I have to agree with Dattoman 1000, I build them for myself and no one else, if I didnt make mistakes and make changes along the way it would be a lot cheaper, it would cost a lot less to do them a second time.

Very well put. If your not doing it for the love of it than what are you doing? I will continue to improve my car and enjoy it. I have owned my 1200 for 28 years and will not sell it!

I build my cars for my own pleasure
I don't build them for resale as none are or will be for sale So every cent I spend on them is for the love of it and I wouldn't have it any other way They are all dear to me and worth the investment in both time and money

If you consider your car a hobby and enjoy working on it then the money will always be worth it.
You learn something, you get pleasure from results and in the end it is still worth something! I like to compare my car habit to my girlfriends clothes habit. We both have about the same amount of disposable income to play with, I choose to spend it on cars, she chooses to spend it on clothes. Once bought, clothes are worth nothing where as you still get some sort of return on your car. From this point of view it's not a bad hobby.

I see that all replies are about performance.
What about show and shine quality. If you go and look at my website you will see I have spend alot of money on my Datsun but not for speed but rather cleanliness and show and shine quality. I am VERY happy so far. I have printed on a color printer a good quality A3 size picture of my Datsun that I took when I had it parked on the dyno. Visitors and people in our office are starting to annoy me because all of them want to know about the datsun on the wall. Not even to mention about when we drive with the Datto over weekends. When it is nice and clean and polished up (like it is currently) it turns heads. I also got strangers when parking the car at the mall or shops come and ask about the car. Even when I took the car just for the exhaust a complete stranger came to me and shook my hand congratulating me on a job well done with the car. It was definately worthit all the money I have spend. Just spend on the right stuff. You can view topic.
