I had a 66 cutlass that had those hokey spring clamps on all 4 corners

Well blocks are a time honored way of lowering the back.
For the front, you'd need to cut 1/2 a coil off. Or just use those hokey "spring clamps" ...

I would say use thethe blocks because you can always undo it if you need to. Blocks will still maintain a decent ride. And yes keep the wheels
