Try the msd blaster2 coil its quit good quit a noticable up grade even with points .the good thing is this coil will work with the electronic diizzy as well if you choose too

hey tommy - check out datrats.com.au i think thats ferals products, check out the A series parts and they are there - i dont think much is invovled fitting them, we could prob do it ourselves. (i like your ute btw! My utes my first car too)

WATS INVOLVED IN FITTING:
HOW MUCH WILL I BE PAYING
AND WAT DO I ACTUALLY NEED 2 ASK THE SHOP 4?

Ihave used a Pertronix electronic ignition, it's less than a hundred dollars (USD) and you'll never change points again. well worth the money, and uses a standard 3 ohm coil. as for perfomance, not a noticable gain, unless pionts were worn, but consistant at higher RPM's ( no point bounce )

yeah electronic ignition - can you tell me more please, does the engine perform better? is it worth the $400-500 if my coil set up works well?

Whilst the original Hitachis are not the setup for "optimal power",
they will help maintain driveability.

Electronic ignition is a good upgrade that you wont regret.

I'M PLANNING TO OVERHAUL THE ENGINE ON MY 1200 GX (A12)
I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THIS ENGINE PERFORM AS STRONG AS POSSIBLE.DONT WANT A BIGGER ENGINE JUST A WELL TUNED 1200 , I ALSO WANT TO RETAIN THE ORIGINAL SU CARB SETUP.
I AM THINKING OF HAVING THE HEAD PROPERLY GASFLOWED, WITH EXTRACTORS TO SUIT WITH 2" FREEFLOW EXHAUST.AND I PRESUME A REASONABLE CAMSHAFT UPGRADE.
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
1) - IS THIS SETUP OPTIMAL FOR MAXIMUM POWER .
2) - TO WHAT DEGREE SHOULD THE CAM BE CUT TO MAKE IT PERFORM WELL BUT STILL MAINTAIN ENOUGH LOW DOWN TORQUE TO DRIVE EASY.
3) - IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE WORTHWILE TO DO LIKE UPGRADING THE COIL ETC.

I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOU GUYS COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS.
