#9 Re: CA18DET Timing Advance????

Just got the info from the hand controller.
Curious to see what timing everyone else runs in a CA.
I thought more timing could be added but might be wrong.

Cheers

Jason

is it 12 degrees BTDC at different load/TP ???
it may be that its 12 deg BTDC at 12% throttle/high vacum at diff RPMs but changes with diff throttle/load points ???

If the tuners have it this way...best ask them why...they may have some reasoning for it???

Its hard to answer this as I don't understand how u know its at 12 deg BTDC. Are u lookin at the hand control or using PC software??? and are u lookin at it under diff loads and rpms

I'm running a Wolf ecu.
I'm curious as my timing seems to be set at 12 deg though most of rev range.
I have had it dynoed and and thought more timing could be added. It has front mount intercooler, high flow RB25 Turbo and the normal mods.
What is the max timing you guys are running?
On 8 psi got 170 rwhp.

Sorry to be hijacking the thread! But yeah that sounds right about the Wolf comp - I am running an EMS Stinger, and in order to get the timing back to around 15 deg, you have to snap off the locating pin from the exhaust cam and then manually adjust it... pain in the ass!!

I found this out because I put a fresh CA in my ute recently, and used the old wiring loom, and the timing was way way out... approx 60 degrees.... turned out to be the CAS and doing what I described above fixed it - started instantly.

from memory the wolf requires the CAS sensor to trigger at 60 deg BTDC. (more like 55???) so you may not need to do much adjusting.

the way to adjust the CAS position...set all ecu ignition values to 0. rotate CAS. Using timing light, ensure that spark is occuring at 0 degrees BTDC.

leave CAS in this position.. then start playin around with the timing.

IF YOUR GONNA BE USING OTHER PEOPLES TIMING...YOU BETTER MAKE SURE YOUR TIMING IS TRUE. ie 10 deg on wolf hand controller is actually 10 deg at crank.

Hi,

LAGWAGON is pretty much spot on, the CA manual says it is 15.

Are you using the CA computer though? Reason being (as I recently found out after ages of pulling my hair out) is that Nissan crank angle sensors are set at about 60 degrees BTDC out of the factory and the computer does the compensation for this... if you're using an aftermarket ECU, this needs to be repositioned.

as i remember it is 10 degrees advanced at idle from factory. the computer does the rest of the changes through the rev range so i am not sure.

I don't have a ca18 and it will also depend on the accuracy of your zero point...

if your mixtures are correct...AND THE ENGINE IS WARM...put enough advance so that the engine idles smoothly at what ever the standard idle rpm of a ca18 is. 900 RPM?????

anything between 8 to 17 degrees might work.

Hi all,

I am trying to work out what timing a CA18DET runs.
Interested in Idle and Max advance????

Any body know?
Thanks
Jason
