i could see some benefit of the higher compression if te valves were bigger and the ports keeping the chamber small and closed but would be better off wit an a14 or a15 oval port, fill the chamber and then grind it out for higher compression.
or just skim the head a it.

The studs on the head are for an A12 tho, so it must have a A12 head whacked on the A15 block.
Not sure why you would do this, to give higher compression? to de-tune the engine? Maybe the A15 head was used on another application so they put the A12 head on

Do you know what the casting numbers are on the head?

Have a look in the tech section for A12 casting numbers, it should reference them all.

Cheers
Dave

didnt vanettes come with round port A15s
they were like 69hp and the others were 80 something hp (or was that A14s)
should have checked if the eninge number matched the one on the cars build plate, as it could be a replacement engine sourced from a vanette

something to think about

When i got my a15 it was exactly like urs. Had the a12 head. so it is possible to fit.
Easy replaced though.

looks like around port, the oval ports must have been an improvement, I put another replacement round port head on a mild A12 and it was a massive increase in HP, I have just put the same head on an A14 I built for a friend about 10yrs ago, it's pretty strong, well on paper, big cam, balance more comp, I just didn't want to use the oval port(well ported) and the twins that came with the package, so I'm running witht e round ports and a Single DHLA40..

You'd only lose it on the top end mainly and hmmm maybe 5-10hp? The intake valve area is lower so the top end hp will be lower as a result - but look at the diff b/w A12 and A14 - it's only about 15hp.

nah there a12 intake and exhaust manifolds..

how much power lose would there be with using the a12 head??

wouldnt it give higher compression ratio with the smaller chamber area? Also less flow as the valves are 1mm smaller arent they?
