That sounds like a likely solution. I'll have a look later.
I just put a tacho in and now the car won't start so I gave up an came in here. I forget how much cars piss me off till I have to work on them.

Hey, almost forgot to mention...i had the same problem before, flat spot at low rev and cornering. It was caused by the fuel pump. The diafragm rubber inside the pump damaged. Since its mechanical, at low rev, the vacuum velocity inside it is low, it cant pump fuel since its damaged. But at high rev, it has enough momentum to pump the fuel...argghh !! cant explain word by word, hope u guys understand...

a faulty idle stop solenoid will cause the car to stall like how you explained i had the same problem, and the flat spot could be caused by a sticking thingy in your carby i cant think what its called right now.

on cornering yeah that could be it. Come to think of it, my car boggs down in slightly harsher corners too. It may also be some sort of short in the electrics, my dad's car does that on left turns cos some wires touch and it's cut's in and out.

High revs are fine, its just accellerating in lower revs and around corners.
I've filled the tank twice and still have to problem so its not that. The came without an air filter so thats been tried. We adjusted the gap a bit and checked the timing with a timing light but like I said it's on about 28 degrees, which doesn't sound normal, unless the cam does that Apparently the engines recently been rebuilt so I assumed the fuel filter is ok but I'll look at it tomorrow. It looks pretty new on the outside.. Anyway the only thing I can think of is that it's starved for fuel with the little carbie and cam. Could this be it?

1.) Adjust your distributor timing and go for a spin. Adjust the other way round if it gets worse. If u're running points, get the gap right. This also involves trial & error
2.) Change the fuel filter. 3.) Replace the air filter or try running without the air filter for a moment. But im pretty sure its related to no.1 since u mentioned high rev is ok. If your high rev is bad, then all 3 suggestions above need to be looked into.... :)

this might sound stupid but how much fuel do you have in your tank? if you running on empty all the time this can happen.
or you could just have a flat spot in you carby. try rebuilding it

I just changed the distributor gap and did the timing. According to the book it should be on 6-8 degrees I think but it wouldn't even go that far back and seemed to run best on about 28 degrees.
Also when I brake hard with the clutch in, just before I stop it stalls. Any ideas?

. Anyway, One thing to check out is your timing, if it's too low with larger carbies (any carbies) you'll get the feeling like it's points and stuff are rooted with a noticalbe snap in acceleration from it's idle speed. My sedan is kind of wierd in that sense cos I when i change the points and stuff it makes my base timing seem too fast but I've already wound it as low as I can, but once it's settled it's lower again and I have to wind it up.
Yeah just another reason I should rebuild it and look at everything

I recently bought a 120Y that has a rebuilt 14a engine that has extractors, a mild cam and apparently a carby from an 1100
.When I put my foot down to it was hesitating before accellerating or revving. I had a spare carby that I put on today which fixed that problem. But still if I try to accelerate hard in second at low revs it kind of stumbles then picks up but if its higher revs its usually ok. And if I'm cornering hard and try to accellerate out of the corner it does the same thing, like there isn't enough fuel for the engine or something. Do you thing the carbs too small? Any other suggestions? Thanks You can view topic.
