Unfortunately A16's are a bit hard to find these days & I don't know of anyone who has used one in a small Datto yet.
Go with the A15 if an A series is to be used

Are you looking for a bigger engine ? Is that why you want to swap? You can easily upgrade to an a15 a16 or 200b (BIG) depending on what model datsun you have got. It sounds like you must have either a 120y or sunny frame if you want to upgrade from a a12. Sunnys and 120ys and 120ys can hol a15s , they have the exact same engine.a15 makes them very powerfull. The 120ys and sunnys are a light frame so putting abig a16 in it would not be wise and it probly wouldnt fit.

OK on the subject of Dad worrying about your safety ,
I don't know if your driving ever included any karting or SCCA stuff but if not................after the car is done get yourself to at least an Autocross , Rallycross or track day. Autocross is cheap and you'll get a chance to polish up on your car control...............it also curbs the urge to drive like a squid. Not sure where in the state you are but there are lots of events statewide. I instruct at a bunch of events from manufacturer promo's to club events and I tell tales of stupid motorcycle tricks and rally dumb things I got away with in cars and how it all went away has soon as I attended organized events. Enjoy your new engine , it should be a fun project. Tom

but you need a diff. cross member for a ca18det. Maybe like the cutting of transmission tunnel out in a manual? I could be wrong but if not... Miosabamf should be aware of such things before he goes straight into it.
