You need to tap a thread into the current pin holes. 10x1.0 pitch. Just mask up the shifter block so no metal falls into the box, then put the tap into a cordless drill and carefully drive it in. A five minute install.

with the bolts that attach the adapter thing to the gear box are they self tapers? or do you still need to tap a thread on the gearbox?

The short shifter is not shorter in length, it is shorter in the throw.

isn't part of the reason the shifter is so long is to make it easier to get your hand over to shift and back to the wheel? shorter shifter will make more time with 1 hand on the wheel...

yeah i know it looks dorky and the passengers tend to have their knee at the 5th gear position...

Hey Boofhead, dont know why the web site isnt working for you, i havent had any one else with that problem.
As for the shifters, the kit in the pic is $160, and the shfter to suit the stumpy/L series 5 speed are $120.
The length is a bit shorter, but the adapter brings the hight up as well.
I didnt want to put the bend in them, as they can be used in a few different gearboxes, but if someone wants theres bent i can do it. The thread is the standard one, so original gear knob can still be used.
They also have brand new bushes.

Cheers Scott

I finally got the photos up.
This shifter and adapter will fit most Datsun gearboxes, and the shifter can be used on the stumpy box without the adapter.

My shifters are now finished, the pivot point you are talking about, is way to much, im only lifting it be 15mm from the original, and that reduces the throw from 3rd to 4th by about 45mm. Normal throw is about 135mm, and with my shifter its abut 90mm. At this length it is still very easy to use, and you dont have to worry wrong gear selection.
I'll try and get a photo up today.
