Some run a low pressure pump to provide VOLUME to the remotely located surge tank [when fitted] & a higher pressure pump that is located in the swirl pot/surge tank to supply the EFI system, while others simply run a single low or high pressure pump as the occasion demands.

You don't need both, either for EFI or Carburetor. Sometimes people run two for:
- backup
- for racing with surge tank as described by BigD

Well im not 100% sure about internal and external fuel pump i thought it was based on your fuel tank. As all EFI cars have one or the other. What im running is a lifter pump, like something that you would use on a webber engine. This fills up my surge tank, then a high pressure efi pump feeds the engine via a fuel pressure regulator. I am also running larger fuel line.
Im sure you all know what im talking about espically anyone with a surge tank.

I used a carter fuel pump about the size of a matcbox car about 65$ from your local speed shop or autopro .they have enough flow to keep the fuel there when on boost but not enough pressure to blow the needle and seat open in the carby open .which is good way to go saved running a pressure reg .when my car came on boosts you could hear the fuel pump speed up and when you slowed down you can hear the pump slow down....
