oil temps no problem, i know that my engine doesn't have a pressuresing problem so i'm not really expecting to get much more than a few drops worth in it.the last "can" (read coke bottle) i had in for well over twelve months and had next to nothing in it when i pulled it out.
it's quick to get out, just have to back off the hose clamps and it'll slip off the bracket i made to mount it on.
also looked at the stainless steel wool idea, but figured it a bit of overkill as i'm not plumbing it back into the engine. the breather enters not quite at the bottom of the can it sits up a bit, and its sitting below the crank breather outlet as well ....

my old coupe had a 90mm pvc catch can mounted up near the passenger side headlight. I made it 2l capacity. you can sort of see it here - well part of it anyway:

best thing to do is fill the catch can with stainless steel wool wrapped in a stocking to help separate the oil from the air while preventing any swarf getting into the engine. also not best practise to have the breather entering at the bottom of the can.

it was in the car for years without any problems from hot oil.

i think its a great idea for a street car but a little worryed about the heat the will come off the exhaust after about 3 to 4 hot laps of it melting

CAMS require a 2 litre catch can for engines up to 2000cc and a 3 litre catch can for engines over 2000cc. I do have to say i love the PVC unit, highly inventive and practical.I would not be concirned about oil temp(a series) it does'nt get that hot and if it does you've got bigger problems to worry about. Finally you 1200 guys, spare a thought for us B10 owners trying to find a spot for a bloody great can in our tiny space

the oil wont stay at that temp for long...and its not like there will be huge amounts of oil spilling into it

can we up date those stickers to say ive got a sprinkler system? and guts?

so you thought it was your engine ticking, must be the sprinkler in stead.

tsk tsk tsk tsk ....... tsktsktsktsk....

nah does the job, but will the pvc stand up to 100deg c plus of hot oil for long?(my only concern but will hold onto it longer than no pvc pipe)

Thanks to boofhead who mailed me the pictures a while back, I will be making the same type of one for myself. Not for track use but just for looks.

Mine, I will however make a small modification at the bottom end in the centre by putting a small sprinkler system tap thingy of plastic to drain yearly.
Will also post a pic when done.

Great and cheap idea that works.
Just read about the 2litre recuired for CAMS rules. 2 litre is quite big can. The catch can will almost be the size of the A12 motor.

Yeah I'm wondering how you'll empty it without spilling it!

have you got like a return line to the sump or at least a drain valve? or do you have to pull it out and empty it when its full? Or just hoping it never gets full...
