OK, its either pure genius or pure luck, probably the later mixed with patiences. If you spray about 1/2 a can of penetrating oil on the distributor flange & wait approx. 48 hours & then push REEEALLY hard that seems to be enough time to let that stuff work its magic & free itself up.
Thanks for all the idea's. I actually got the timing set properly & it runs a whole lot better! Evan

Hi Evan, Here's what I would do:
A. Search the newsgroups for similar reports: http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=460+distributor+stuck If that didn't get any ideas: B. 1. Plan on getting a replacement distributor as this may ruin the existing one 2. Mark the timing and remove it (pull it up out of the block). I'm guessing this won't work either 3. Take a drift and hit the aluminum right where it meets the block. Hit it hard. This might free it up 4. Use a spray-freeze can and spray the distributor housing just about where is enters the block

have you undone the bolt?
if so and it still wont budge it is most likely corroded between the base plate and the block, just a slight tap with a hammer should be enough to break any bond formed between the 2 surfaces. seems a bit odd to me...

I guess I should of clarified the problem a little more, sorry about that.
Yes the dist. is still in the motor & the the engine runs. I was trying to check & set the timing & just wanted to spin it while the motors running. I just can't get it to turn, it's like it's welded itself to the friggin block! It's an aluminum dizzy & a steel block, maybe that has something to do with it. Evan

It could just be that the gear drive has bound onto the crank gear drive.
I'd try rotating the crankshaft back & forwards by hand while trying to pull it out. If that doesn't work, I reckon you'll need a slide hammer. Find a piece of booker rod with a thread that's compatible to the top of your distributor drive. Drill a hole in a healthy sized piece of barstock. Screw one end into the dizzy & a lock nut on the end of the rod.... And start sliding. That's about all I can come up with without seeing it 1st hand.... Not overly familliar with the Ford big block.

is it still in the motor?
i pressume youve already tried to turn over the motor... what happened? is it frozen as in theres 1 meter of snow around me or frozen as in mechanically jammed? maybe mark where it was in the motor and pull it out being directly connected to the cam i pressume, how would you know its the dizzy jammed not the motor?

Alright I could lie & say this is a Datsun related question but I'll be honest instead. If this pisses anybody off I'll apologize up front.
I have a 74 ford F250 pickup with a 460 V-8 that has a frozen distributor. I cannot for the life of me get it to budge. I've tried penetrating oil, channel locks, tried to get a pipe wrench on it but it won't fit. I haven't tried a torch yet but I might. Like I said, not a Datsun but we can pretend can't we. Let's see, 460 Cubic inch equals about 6 point something A12 motors ,we can look at it that way. It's a universal engine problem at times. Any idea's are appreciated. Evan You can view topic.
