you cant get to half of the spot welds on the battery tray with every thing removed anyway

i used a diegrinder on one of my 1200s as i wanted to keep the battery tray, could get in every where and ends up looking pretty neat

it actually looks neater if you grind the whole thing off as you dont have the little spot weld drill imprints left all over the place

done it a few times, i just cut off the tray and leave the flat parts still spot welded on

that spot weld drill bit would be much neater!

but motor would have to be out to get to one area of them

Just do what PIGDOG says, it would be quick and easy. Thats what I will do with mine.

Yeah I was having a look at it this morning and its an odd shaped bastard! Removing it properly with a spot weld tool would take ages.

just cut the thing off where you can then grind off whats left

I used a cold chisel and a hammer but did leave one small split in the steel.

Let us know how you go with this one, I was going to tackle it this weekend but I'll wait to hear how your go.

Use a spot weld drill:

1. Centre Punch and Spotweld Drill
2. Drill through the first layer
3. Remove first Layer

The spot weld drill is basically a flat cutter with a tiny centre drill.

It can be hard to access all of the spotwelds for the battery tray. You may need a combination of drilling and cutting.

or drill out the spot welds
