On closer inspection, it does look like the 63 box IS for an A series.

Thanks heaps. The one in the second picture does look quite big. Wouldnt want someone to buy it and find it wont fit an A series.

That lower one is a 63 sereis box. I can't tell if it's "A" or "L", but the 63"A" is VERY strong. The one to get IMO.

The Sydney gearbox is for an A series engine with the clutch arm configured for cable operation, which was used on all right drive cars. This one also seems to be the later version with the conventional shift pattern. The second gearbox uses a hydraulic clutch setup which is characteristic of the left drive gearbox. This one is also the earlier dogleg shift pattern although both are still overdrive types.

Hi all, I have noticed that on ebay there is two 5 speed boxes for sale. By the photos both these boxes look totally different. The one from Sydney looks to me like it will suite an A series better than the one from melbourne. The one from melbourne has the release fork locate in a different position than the other one and it looks fairly large too. Well what im asking is why do these gear boxes differ so much? I have never seen an A series 5 speed before and i would love to have one...
