Sorry tyrie i got carried away, yes you are right, and hec i knew that to. The title of the thread would suggest that i did anyways.
toyota gearbox info this page is a good reference for the t50, but it only talks about the 3T version. The celica that i was thinking of used the W series box. Stupid me Still, I think a wiki entry is in order. When its done, ill ask for corrections... most likly from you Tyrie... rollaclub link

OK ill rephrase that.
The input shaft is the same, but the bell housing has bolts in a different spot since it went on a different motor. the 3t was mated to the 18R motor, whereas the 2t went on the 4k motor. the bolt pattern on the belhousing is different, the diameter is about the same. the internals are suposed to be stronger on the 3t box, but there is not documented evidence other then opinions. there was 3 different versions of the 3t box, of which they differed mainly in the length of the shifter casing. they got progresivly longer over the years, about 6" difference between the longest and shortest version. There was also a range of different gear sets available, but that was an option so most are the same gear set, accross the years. The split caseing in the midle is identical between the 2t and 3t i am sure, but some more research on this is forthcoming. perhaps i should WIKI this... ahh any objections?

I have workeed out the cause of my grief, and it looks like everything will work fine. I had the car up on axle stands so everything was out of wack. I put the car back down on the wheels, and now everything looks like it will line up like its supposed to! Damn do i feel stupid right about now.... It seems that there isnt any difference which is a relief

Well Actually its the outpuy shaft that is different. 23 spline on the 3t rather than then 21 spline on the 2t.
The input side of things is identical. Spoke to Dattoman1000, and he seems to think that it should all fit. Kue1000s setup fits nice, so I dont know what I am doing wrong. have to shift house today, and look at housese for a friend tommrrow, so Sunday, i might get a chance to do something. I really dont want to chop the tunnel...

Well I found so information that answers my question about length.
They aparently came in three lengths, with the early ones bieng short and the last one the longest by 6". All the back half of the cases are interchangable so if you wanted to you could shorten the box, by swapping the case around. The belhousings bolt on differently but there is nothing about the two split parts of the centre case. But I still dont know if they are any different in diameter, or if it is the tunel in the sedan bieng smaller than the coupe.

Does anyone know if the t50 from a 2t corolla (20 spline) is bigger or smaller than the t50 from a 3t corrola (22 spline)??
I am not a member of the toyota clubs and i havent been able to find this specific information. I have a look at a t50 conversion in Bens coupe a couple weeks ago and it fits differently than mine seems to, and I am under the impression that his is a 2t (20 spline) t50 box. When i am trying to line up my motor and box, my box seems to sit further back by about 4" and it sits with the front of the motor tilted up. Does the coupe have a differnt trans tunnel than the sedan? Any info?? You can view topic.
