I googled it and it is described as an air purifier. Commonly fitted in the JDM market [I guess to help combat the air pollution] in skylines and Z cars. It has paper and carbon based filter elements.
Looks like it should be fitted on the rear parcel shelf.

im not to sure what it is. but my guess is yes it is an 'ioniser'?! the diagram in the back has it mounted on the rear window of a sedan/coupe
