Everything is relative. If I could afford to, I would buy this KB10 and ship it here in a heartbeat. I'd gladly pay the asking price to get a solid car.
But then I would also probably pay strong money for a solid 1200 ute too. They might still be common there but here they most definately are not and would command a price equal to or higher than a coupe. Even as an unfinished project I expect I could get a very good price for mine. Last year I paid the equivelent of nearly $3000AU for a datsun 160J SSS (KP710) that needs restoring. 5 years ago that same car would have been a third of that, but now people are taking notice of the cars at last and there are few left (6 in the case of the KP710). I know of at least four cars (Three Dattos and a bellet) that have come into the UK from Australia in the last 18 months and as the demand increases people will start to look abroad to get these cars more and more. It's becoming a global market. -Ed

Geeez, boys & girls, settle down & return all disjointed noses to the normal position. A POS Ute, ANY POS Ute, be it Datsun 1200 or anything else. Ute's, being workhorses, not show ponies, get knocked around in their life & deteriorate to cheap POS status faster that most others vehicles of the same model & are therefore more readily available.

If all one wants is a cheap POS to abuse, then buy a Ute. After the comment about only using the KB10 for a chassis I think Dodgemans comment only refered to saving the rare car (KB10) from being abused and get a more common Datsun like a ute. (with a production run of 35 years as opposed to 2 years for the KB10) They are all pieces of sh*t when they are abused and stuffed, its not an insult to utes.

I think he was meaning the "to abuse" part more than the "cheap POS", Any car can be a cheap POS when you buy it, whether you abuse it or not is a choice you make.
edit: most people would say if you want a bushbasher get a 120y. I think it sucks but really if people want to pick one up cheap and thrash it I'm not going to argue, its their money and their car.

dodgeman What is this saying then? 'Tyrie' agree to an extent, but it always seems that people are doing it to the best ones out there... ANYWAYS, I have made my point and am sorry for the off topic debate in this thread. I hope that the sale goes well.

I dont think anyone called 1200 utes in general sh*t or sh*tboxes, but if one is buying a 1200 to chop up/destroy, make it a ute so that the harder to find cars are preserved.

I just think that its wrong to call them sh*t because there is a lot of them or particular people destroy them and put god knows what in them. Yes I agree that there are a lot of sh*t beat up looking utes out there but there are also a few (including mine) that are in really good condition and have sold for much more than this car has on it.
It is a datsun and shares a lot of common parts with all of the others so if it is a sh*tbox then so must the rest be. I PERSONALLY only like the look of the 1200's, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to call all other datsuns sh*tboxes. As for not having enough room in them, I'm 6foot and I love driving mine, maybe your just to old and stiff.
