#12 Re: 5 Speeds PNG THEY EXIST!!
clyons8 Posted on: 2008/3/31 3:49
Hello all,

To tell you the truth I haven't been on the chase too much. It's just a matter of waiting, I can't really push people to hurry.

So far....no news, I'm trying to get a day off to go round and look at the yards and scrapyards but we're flat out doing work for the mines. I did have someone tell me they had one but it ended up being for a diesel (Bahhh!!)

Keeping on.

Chris

Overdrive is what i'm looking for - if you can get some in good condition i'd be interested in bringing a few down

While the 1200 was sold in some markets as the Datsun 1200 GX, I do not believe that they were ever offered outside japan with the 5 speed.
The 5 speeds that are available in PNG are very likeley to be the conventional shift 60 series overdrive gearboxes from the 1400 Bakkies, & while these are VERY good, they don't offer the same sporty performance of the lovely [non overdrive] 56A five speed models.

DD I haven't heard anything about the GX-5 model. It is possible that they were here, very possible.

I thought I had the only Datsun 1000 here but apparently there was an army of them along time ago.

I don't think they had the Sedans or Coupes here but definitely the Utility.

Unfortunately when cars break down here the parts are often really hard to get so the cars are left in the village/bush until they're pretty much completely decayed.

Found One.

Will look for more over the next few weeks.

Looking good so far.

We also have the 1400 bakkie's over here!

I think you'll find those are the newer overdrive 5-speeds. Not the Datsun 1200 5-speeds.

Good News/

I have found out that they are quite common, many of the utes around now are running 5 speeds. I have been offered a few 1200s in various conditions, and I will try and get a look at them ASAP.

I know for sure there are alot less 1200 utes on the road now, it's just a matter of finding out where they all went to.
