I reckon they look cool. There is quite a few kicking round here (christchurch, nz). Theres a 10A powered imp panel van here and a imp classic race car that races in most o the classic events, which just sounds way to cool for a sub 1000cc race car. There is also quite a few road going examples nicely restored

I'm an Imp fan too.
As Bert has mentioned there are a couple around SE QLD that compete on a regular basis. Lovely little cars.

yesterday I spent one of my best days ever in the car scene in Australia.
Met 2 brothers and a cousin who are really helpful, humble and carry a sense and respect for cars and car enthusiasts thats left me speechless. They love VWs and Subarus, VW for everything but Subarus for performance and also everyday comfort and costs. One has a Subaru Brumby powered by a ej25T stock except for 3 inch exhaust the other another but with RS running gear and to be converted to RWD only. From a pushrod engine all flat 4 subs just need factory bolt on engine mounts from corresponding later ones, completely accepting the latest and best sub equipment. Even the harnesses and computers are easily adapted with simple unplugging and plugging in the new harness in most cases. This is a big thing for me cause I hate wiring. Also the Brumbys have full independent suspension, a very neat bullet proof Torsion bar independent rear end and strut front end. Now the Imp for sale I was after had the Subaru EA81 gearbox and engine, meaning the 1.8 pushrod could easily be changed to a late ej25 or similar. All the work was done and would be an massive up over the Imps original overheating and gear grinding gear. All hidden in the rear. Impers have put in 2.1 and 2.3 liter VW engines in them with Combi boxes but the Subaru stuff is just the bomb. DD, Imps where an english thing really, so few pom brands made it there due to aiming their design as a Californian styled version. Hillman never had a chance compared to Austin Healeys, MGs etc but the Japanese had to other choice to try and inundate the world market with cheap reliable transport apart from the Fairlady etc.

I have never seen two Imps in 27 years of driving and junkyard hunting...and I have seen one Datsun 1000.

Right to get to the point Im looking at this one for a project at the moment!
http://www.imps.hillman.org.au/4sale.htm It rusty but I think the main rails and body is good. It has sub running gear (inc. box) and I would like to make it into a speedster chop top. Reinforce the body with twin roll hoops behind the seats and take the roof off and use fibreglass bonnet, guards and boot. Smooth out the front and go back to single headlights like the blue one below with the K engine. It has disc brakes all round already so most of the hard work is done. Does anyone know a freight company I could use from sydney to melbourne? So far the cost is over 900 dollars. Here are pics of the rust bucket the floor looks good thoughYou can view topic.
