It definately has a plate between motor and gearbox.

yes, Datsun 1200 A12 engine does not use a motor plate between the block and transmission.

A14 does ...

i had a similar problem, i found that some boxs need the plate behind the flywheel and some dont it made a differance on mine!!

yeah that sounds starange!my advice is to first check the clutch cable is pulling the fork properly, if that is ok then there is no choice but to start again. What is happening exactly? is there any pedal there at all?

so did I. Really annoying! Not sure what to do next. Il remove it again and more closely compare everything!

Yes, that photo shows the difference. The A12 4-speed and A14 5-speeds have that difference. I would have thought 60-series 4 & 5 would be the same ... ?

just be sure your your clutch fork is not fouling on anything, this happened to me once and all it was it was hitting on the fuel line that comes up from the transmission tunnel, i found that it wouldn't engage into gear no matter the amount of adjusting.

When i changed my 4 speed to a 5 speed in my ute i got supplied the clutch fork and the bearing carrier and i know that the lengths are different, the 5 speed bearing carrier is a bit longer, i think in your case it shouldn't matter that much, i would be double checking everything to make sure.


thats a pic of the difference between the two.Seeing that you are using the 4 speed it shouldn't matter, but i could be wrong.i know if you use a 5 speed with the 4 speed bearing carrier it doesnt reach the pressure plate, not sure if it matter the other way around? it shouldn't, but i haven't come across it.

Both gearboxes have 60 stamped on the side of them and look identical in length, size, shape etc

It may be that your 4-speed was actually from an A12 ... in which case the release bearings Carriers are different lengths (release bearing is the same).

Recently removed 60 series 5 speed gearbox from my 1200 ute (a14) and replaced it with (a14) sunny 4 speed.

Used throwout bearing from 5 speed on 4 speed box as bearing that came with the 4 speed was in bad condition.

Clutch used with 5 speed gearbox was left on the motor and was not touched or changed.

For some reason, no matter how we adjust the clucth cable, we cannot get a good clutch pedal or get it into any gear.

What could be causing this;
do the throwout bearings differ from 4 speed to 5 speed?
do the clutch forks differ from the 4 speed to 5 speed?
do the clutch and pressure plate differ from 4 speed to 5 speed?
