did u run it in properly, if u rev the guts out of it when its still very tight that sort of thing can happen.

could be tollerences too...need to check the crank and rods aren't out of round.... i replaced the bearings in my ca thinking the first set might have been from age. they chewed up again within 50kays, so my rods or crank are worn.....have to rebuild the entire motor to get mine running, lucky i have a spare ca18 sitting in my shed....

well thats what i thought but it has been fine for about 3 months, ive completed 2 oil changes with oil filters.

The other thing is i think the shavings are from the actual bearing becuase there are obvious grooves from where it was scraping on the bearing, and i guess thats where the shavings from.

ANyway i am putting in the new bearings now so ill let you know. I also got new Oil and filter too. see how it goes.

Since this is clearly not a design fault with our small Datsun engines it must surely be due to someone not ensuring that everything was spotlessly clean & that all foreigh debris was removed from the engine prior to reassembly.
After all, the blockage material had to come from somewhere.

wow thats not good at all. Luckly this was only a A14 so isnt as hard or as expensive as a ca :P

tell me its a ca18det mine just did the same no 3 big end gone in the sump knocking sound is the piston hitting the bottom of the head

Just thought i would let you all know what happened to me over the weekend. Not too happy.

Little bit of background. I rebuilt my motor about 3 months ago and all was going well until the weekend. When i could here this tapping sound in the motor. I got louder as the car revved.

I decided to drop it home and call my father as he is a mechanic. WHen he came back he diagnosed it was the big end bearings.

I spent all day yesterday pulling the motor out. After pulling the sump off we found that on the last bearing the little oil hole was clogged up with metal shavings and had massive marks in it.

Im just amazed that this happened only 3 months after the car was rebuilt.

Has this ever happeend to anyone else ?>
