there is a bit of confusion when doing a sr20 mod into our little cars due to the power to rate ratio but it can be done....But if you can get an engineers report over here for it you will be able to get it licenced here but you will have to go to welshpool and talked to the guys in transport and dicuss it with them and they will give you a direct answer. The guy to talk to is Clive i think, he is the most helpful....if there is such a thimng with the dpi.

national guidelines state
" vehicle under 800 kg original weight,
weight in kg x 3 = max NA cc's
weight in kg x 2.5 =max boosted cc's"
so 1200 weighs 770 kg x 2.5 = 1925cc's

its close so they may let you if you can convince them

Does that mean you can't get a SR20DE engineered over there?

It's a shame all states can't just be the same.
If a car is engineered and registered in one state, I feel it should be recognised in another state.
The engineer that signed off on it still did his / her degree that is recognised Australia wide.

If they would recognise the rego / engineers for the DE engine. You could put the origional DE stuff back on for the transfer, then put the turbo back on later - (not that I would encorage anything shifty) .

Just had a look at the car. If your serious about this ute, take all the pix and info you can get hold of and go see a engineer.

There is no way this vehicle would just go straight over the pits and given the problems I am having getting a CA18DET road registered and legal in WA. I doubt you would be able to register this vehicle in WA. The SR20DET falls outside of the modification guidelines put out by Transport - Technical Division.

You would be best talking to a engineer and I would suspect he would lodge a application with Technical Division to get this vehicle approved.

Talk to Ian Dennis only if you ring Technical Division, but I would ring a engineer first.

The guy I am using is pretty good. Can give you his details if you like.

If you buy a vehicle from interstate it has to be inspected and if modified from standard will probally need a engineer cert.

However if you lived in say Sydney and moved to Perth with a standard road car you do not need to take it over the pits. But it has to be stock on the rego papers. (eg) no engine swap.

i know that the lisciencing centre has changed the rules. you no longer have to have an interstate vehicle go over the pits to change to wa liscience. reason being is to try and reduce the long line ups for inspection. if it is liscienced you might not have a problem. call the lisciencing centre

Pretty sure you will have to get it engineered As you probably know you have to get it re registered when changing states. Since all the works been done i don't see you having much trouble getting it passed by an engineer but that and another 12 months rego would go close to another $2,000. Plus different laws in different states may not allow that conversion. I'm a NSW's guy so i don't profess to know the W.A Laws. Ring your Motor registry or look at there website and see what there requirements are.
EDIT: Also add between $1,000-$1500 for transport
