It was apparently quite common to select shells direct form the factory production line by the race teams alligned with GM and Ford.

Homer, Car 56 datsun was run in 73

It's not as if it is like these days with a V8 Supercar being built from a blueprint. The falcon and commodore are shortened by approx 100mm through the rear door section.
The commodore is actually shorter Falcon is the same and the 100mm is out of the front guard have a closer look and once you do its pretty obvious.

I have read numerose stories regarding the dodgy enginering of cars (not dodgy quality but rule bending Dodgy)
I have herd if you look at the chassis in a lot of HDT commodores from the early ATCC days youmight find the chassis rails in a totally different "factory location"
I also remember the Texico searias running a wider front end at bathurst and when they were disqualified Brocky took out his belated 9th Victory (RIP 05)

If anyone can let me know the years that this ran at the mountain and I will do a search in the Libary (I work for the company that does the great race book and AMC) and see if there is any file pictures I can dig up

If it exists at al as a wide body, its unlikely it was built outside a factory. Think about the work, cur and shut front apron, radiator support, grille, bonnet (with centre crease), roof, floor, bootlid (with centre crease), boot floor, beaver panel, all these not just the skin but frames as well. all for a car probly destined to get bent on the track, unlikely anyone would be that keen.

I think it is really cool that after all those years Datsun Racing Team mechanics are still into 1200's and are actually on this forum!
