There are several things you can do: First off you can rejet the standard carb. (Weber 32/36 would be better of course) As mentioned you can go to a bigger exhaust. The flat top pistons will help regardless of any other mods. On the oval port head if you have the carb that came with it use that. You can also gasket match the manifold/head. Electronic ignition from a 120Y.Go to a 14lb flywheel. Keep it in proper tune etc. I would guess you that you could get the A12 up to the 75-78HP range. You might be able to ditch some weight out of the car as well.

You suffering form P plater? The thing is that the standard carbies are really only an economy carbie, you can't get more out of them unless you have all the gear the Japs are using in their historic class racing.
But for fun that doesn't look illegal I'd go a weber 32\36 carby conversion, I mean weber make all this stuff for "problemmatic" carbies. I reakon that standard carby is "cough" "problematic" Add a slightly larger exhaust all the way through and it'll be fun You can view topic.
