ok if its coming with a 5 speed and already worked its worth it, get rid of the a15 on here easy enough.

I think this blokes got a 5spd to suit the L16.. will be checking out what hes got soon...
Plus this L16 engine is already worked. So it might be worth the effort. Either way ill probably grab it, but maybe source a spare xmember and build this up on an external mockup until its ready to drop in... More likely then not ill just fabricate a from scratch custom Xmember instead of f--king around with modifying an old rusty one. And make a from scratch sump if needed.

plus for the cost of an engenieered L series conversion you might be able to afford a A series 5 speed.... so i will go 4speed at first and later on upgrade to a 5 speed when i save up more $$$

im ging l16 from a15.... look at the torque increase thats wgat i say and the options for power ups later on.
The way i look at it my a15 does 50kw approx atw, L 16 will put a little more but torque is way up and at a lower rpm... and later on with cam porting etc should be good for closer to 70kw reliably and cheaply.... get an a15 to do that cheaply and reliably and will cost a fair few more $$$$

Thanks for the info fellas.
I'll probably just stick with the A15 in my ute then. Still considering aquiring this engine though, as its at a good price and i can pick it up locally. Might come in handy as a spare considering I plan on boosting this A15...

i think u better off going with nissans own flywheel outputs of about 85hp A15 vs about 98hp L16
the atw numbers u got there not reliable too much variation and taking into account diffrents engine mods and diffrent dynos. if u were upgrading from an a12 it would be worth the work to go to the L20, but from an A15 to an L16, hardly worth it. the same amount of $ and time into your a15 will get up and go very nicely.

I certainly wouldn`t do it,
Just dynoed my A15 peak Kw was 43 atw. L20 the day ealier made 41. L20 stock w impco gas. A15 stock w cam and impco gas sys. Both cars had timing and mixtures optimised.

A15 makes flywheel 85HP in most applications. I would skip it. If you are going to that much work, fit L18 or L20B.

Hey I've found an L16 motor not far from here for a good price, it already has some work done to it. pistons, cam, head work etc.
I currently have an A15 in the ute and what I want to know is wether it is worth the effort to convert to an L16? a quick google for hp stats found A15's make ~ 50hp and the L16's make ~ 90hp Is that about right? (I am guessing those figures are with stock carbs exhaust etc) I have had a quick skim through some posts on here about the L series conversions and how they are needing to modify cross members and sumps etc... This necessary for the L16? Do the A series g/box fit an L series block, if not, do you have to modify the tunnel to fit the (bigger?) box? And one final thing, anybody got some ballpark figures on what an A15 with extractors and twin delo 45's would make compared to an L16 with extractors and twin delo 45's Thanks You can view topic.
