if u use the coilovers u would get rid of the leafs and make watts links from the front leaf shackle point to the diff, need to make the brackets on diff, would then need a panhard rod too to stop sideways movement.

Some coilovers i want to sell... But not enough travell for the ute unfortunatly. Open in new window
You could get away with a single leaf for diff location and then use coilovers but there wouldnt be much advantage over using just the leaf setup apart from being able to quickly change spring rates for track work.

As Im sure your aware. With the coil over you have a spring and a damper. By using the coil over in place of the shock on a stock rear end you now have 2 springs and a significantly high spring rate.

For the coil over to be effective the diff needs to be able to move up and down. Hense the 4 link setup. Even with a very soft leaf spring arrangement I doubt the coil over will be 100% effective. And say you only ran the large leaf on the rear, You would be placing that spring under considerable strain and possibly fatigue. As that leaf is holding the whole axle assembley in position.

This ute is turning into a serious weapon

cheers guys thought you could fit coilovers to a leaf sprung cars after seeing it done on the front of 1000's

still seem's like it could work has a coilover has a shock, so your just making the rear more stiffer sprung buy running the leaf and the coil , or is this a bad idea ?

there is a place called mcdonalds engineering (i think) that sells full 4 link setups for drag cars and stuff... these could be welded into a ute fairly easily, they even sell shortened 9 inch diffs.

i think its more the fact that you need to make a 4 link setup first. should be able to get a spax coilover that would be about to size of the ute shock, so you would just run it the same as what the shock does
