Yes, gearboxes are same sedan/wagon/coupe/ute. 120Y and 1200 and Sunny gearboxes are the same

yes it turned out mine was a borg warner
went to the wreckers and picked up another diff there was about 3 wagons and they all had the japp diff 2 of these were 4 speed manual im thinking about taking one of the gearboxes for my 120y sedan are the 120y sedan and wagon gearboxes the same? thanks again for the help Jason

Yes, if I recall correctly it was said that 120Y sedans were assembled in Australia and so used aussie-made BW diffs, while coupes were assembled in Japan.
BW 68, has bolts on back of the diff center section Hitachi diff: bolt are on front of center section More details and full-size pics: Borg Warner Diff

nearly 100% sure its a borg warner im going to the wreckers soonish so ill remember what it looks like Cheers

Easy as,i assume you have the car there.Look underneath at the diff,if it has a plate on the back of the centre housing its a borg warner,if it has no plate and bolts in from the front(tail shaft end)it's a jap diff.

i just need to know what diff came standard in a 1977 120y sedan its pretty urgent the brake specialist told me it could be either a borg warner or a japanese diff thanks in advance Jason You can view topic.
