#5 Re: How much to rebuild a 60 series 5 speed?

synchro's are $105 each from nissan, bearing should cost no more than $120 or if you replace the layshaft bearings another $50. There are some problems the 60 series suffer from like case hardening coming off and breaking the spline under the 4/5 selector circlip.

Thanks guys
I won't be rebuilding it myself as I have neither the skills or time.
Looks like it shouldn't hurt the wallet too badly.
Thanks again Matty

If you've rebuilt gearboxes before the cost is mainly in getting the bearings. There's also a lock nut at the back of the main shaft that can either be replaced or machined slightly to get a new lock in section. Last time I got bearings it was about $100, but that was a few years ago. Any diff & transmission place should not have any problems, either, unless they're incompetent. With the broken shifter pin, take those along & see if you can get some stronger pins. I've broken a few over the years & my friend who rebuilds them for me always puts something stronger in.

ive pulled apart my own dogleg 5 speed (was a 63L though) and its nothing to hard to do. and if your just replacing all the bearings then its nothing that cant be done with a few general tools and a press

also replaced all the main bearings and one of the needle roller bearings in my r31 box and it cost me $140 in bearings and a bit of my time

#1 How much to rebuild a 60 series 5 speed?

Hi all
I have a dogleg 60 series 5 speed that needs rebuilding.

I had it in the car and noticed 2nd and 3rd gear synchros were tired but other than that it seemed pretty good. I have since removed the box as a roll pin came loose meaning I was unable to select either 2nd or 3rd gears.

Has anyone had a 5 speed box rebuilt?
What sort of money am I looking at?
Any recommendations for someone in Brisbane to do the job?

Cheers Matty
