H165 are getting rare but available centre from some bluebirds.
Gav there are many h190 in vanettes, urvan, 720 utes, navarras and some other nissans its essentially a 10 bolt diff whereas the h145, 150 and 165 are supposedly all 8. The h150 is common in 120ys and with some mods can be as mentioned fit in a h145 housing. The benefit is when using a cheap lockup unit like the phamtom grip knock-off its supposedly strong enough for decent power providing not abused for burnouts etc. The h190 is the one I would go for abuse.

H150 isn't that much stronger than the H145 espeically when boost is involved, H165 is much better, i had in my CA18det powered coupe it handled the power pretty well.
That alloy diff centre would be a good catch! i wonder if its a Topgear built unit?? but more than likley a 'pitroad' item.

Apparently a h150 centre will fit into a h145 housing with a couple mill adapter plate to widen the housing a little. This sounds like one of the better options to me because you get to keep the original lighter alloy housing. For a stronger but still light option, you want to check out the alloy h165 LSD on ebay, but i have a feeling its not going to go cheap..

yep i just installed a H165 ute diff in my 1000, well a month or two ago. I went through the same train of thought you did Gav, i contemplated getting a bigger diff shortened like the other boys have done but i'm only running an A14 turbo and i want to keep it as light as possible, and i realised that a skyline R31/commodore diff is a heavy lunk of a thing and the H165 is only a bit heavier than the stock diff and relitively easier conversion.
I used a ute diff and it's about 30mm wider on each side, as stated before you need to either get the right offset wheels or just put flare on, i'm going to be using flares. I found out you can't use a shorten a ute diff because after it has been shortened there isn't enough for the splines. The only option would be to shorten a Bluebird H165 diff seeing that they're wider, if you want to go down the shortened H165 but if you want to go down that route you may as well go and get a H190 out of a series 3 bluebird, but they're obvouisly a fair bit heavier again. I looked into the Alfa LSD that D mentioned but they are far and few in between, i was originally looking for an LSD but i'm hoping to purchase a Topgear builtr LSD for the H165 housing. Quote: what do you boys do to your H145's to get them to break so often? It's funny what a bit of boost can do!!!!

A 1000 at 60kph??? suprised it will go any faster.... lol
Ahh the fun stuff happens above burnout pace where diffs don't really break unless you have hp.

No H190 does not fit into a H150 housing...
I would go a H165, you'll have trouble breaking that, move the leaf spring pads get a ute tailshaft and it should bolt in, otherwise find a H150/H165 sunny or 120y tailshaft and get that shortened, at least it will have the correct flange on it. Although saying that, what do you boys do to your H145's to get them to break so often, I have run plenty of locked H145s over the years, only broken axles and a couple of centres I have swapped because they sounded too clunky.

Can anybodoy tell me more about the H150/H190. Im guessing the h190 centre bolts into the h150 housing. What did come in? What ratio's? and are they much lighter than the pintara?
