The original A12 rods are plenty strong for this application. Dodgeman runs this combination.
The A12A rods (1979-1982) are already machined for the larger piston pin. I do not know if newer A12 are the same or not. Here in USA we do not have an 1974-1994 A12s.

Well, mine I am planning on using in the sedan.
Upon reading up as suggested by dd I did pick up that I will have to bore out the little end of the conrods by 1mm to fit the pistons. Damn. I don't really like the idea as some things I have read state that I must have the newer model A12 conrods that are a bit beefier here to make it more safe to do. I think 120y's had these pistons. Mmmm, our local engine depot has a hell of a lot of newer type A12 engines lying around. The ones with the distributor in the same location as a A14/15 engine. I wonder if their conrods won't work for this mod. Then I can buy a set from them. Any comments from you all?

I also have a A12 lying at home, just the other day the thought creeped into my mind to take and do the same thing to the motor. Really do not know were I will use it, just a little project to play around with and test some new ideas on.

Hi all
I can get a unmolested A14 crank for free. What is involved in fitting it to a early A12 block. Please don't spare any details with regard to machining,if my current A12 conrods will work, what cc will I get and what pistons is needed if my current A12 pistons won't work. You can view topic.
