I put the fluid in there myself!
The arm is just off the floor so i dont think its that

did they remeber to put fluid in there?

it could be the throw out bearing or the arm not releasing fully (did something similar in mine till piggy hit it with a hammer, was more of a rattle than a whine though)

If its a scale of annoyingness, I reckon about a 5 Jay, but then again I dont have sound deadening installed ATM.
Yeh the 56a 1200 used to whine slightly...but ive noticed this one is a bit worse.
Ive checked the throwout arm and pretty much ruled it out as being the source of the noise as it sits just off...the occasional knocking was the reverse switch.

hey mate from 1-10, how loud is the noise your hearing?

i think its normal for there to be a slight whine when in nutral and foot off the clutch

Eh the diffs another story :)
I get the main whine even when stationary.
The throwout arm is just kissing the floor (shoulda given it a tap with the ball-pien when I had it out :( ) but is this enough to make a high pitched whine? I thought that'd cause a more rattly buzz type noise. Hmm ill check again.

If the throwoout arm isnt all the way back would this cause it? maybe the floor is stopping it from going all the way back

There is still a different whine when gearing down that ive experienced in my other a series box and thought it was just par for the course of an old gearbox, still works fine...changes are smooth ect...just noisy!!

looking at your pic is it in a 1000?
be sure the throwout arm isn't touching the floor, it makes an awful noise!!!

bearings or gear. Even in neutral, the cluster shaft is turning that mean four pairs of gears rotating.

So in your scenario, it doesn't matter if they's a load on it or just idling? Either way is noisy?

So I put my 60 series 5 speed back in yesterday after having it re-raced because of a bit of noise. The gearbox ppl said that it looked fine inside, and replaced the bearings. Inspected the thruster bearing before re-fitting and it seemed fine.
But there is still noise! Particularly a noticeable whine when the foot is off the clutch, but also when going down through the lower gears.
So while Ive taken it back to the mechanic, but while im waiting, what could be the other causes of such noise if its no the bearings?

Im not sure if its particular to the 60 series becuase I remember I had similar issues in my ute with a 56t series...though not as noticable.
