trx box will bolt straight in(will line up with gearbox crossmember fine) but obviously its longer, by about 3 inchs or so i think so the shifter will also be about that much further back

Stanza gearbox is probably 26.3 inches in length (same as automatic transmission length). This is the 'stumpy'. Most other 63-series are longer.

Thanks Heaps Fellas. Yeah TRX box is definitely longer going to make some measurements as im sure the mounts (cross member) are in the same place. So will check that and if shifter is going to be much further back. May just look for another stanza 4 or 5 speed box.

Don't give up at this late stage, your almost across the line.
You are not far off being able to appreciate all the work you have put in.

I thought the TRX boxes are longer?

I have done this conversion (with stanza 5spd) and can only reiterate that it is all worth it once done
cheers
Bruce

Well thats cause it seemed fine and as Revhead said it can feel like its selecting all gears but when you try to start it it will be jammed. The input shaft was sticking through the thin cardboard when it arrived. Wasnt looking to attack you mik i am looking for a solution. As you can imagine im peeved off but with the whole saga not just the jammed box. Its out with motor and box and get me TRX 5 speed box checked out if all good get tail shaft shortened a bit more and back in she goes. No point cryin over stuffed gearboxes there's plenty around ay.

That groaning is 'the old 2 gears at once trick eh' and there is only one thing that you can do about it. rip the gearbox out and separate the front bell housing from the sandwich plate. But try to not separate the rear case. With the selector finger still in the gate you may not be able to get the rear casing off anyway. Although it won't hurt to attempt to take the rear housing off as it would certainly make life easier. A bit of sealant after you get the thing into neutral and you are good to go. Just time.
