the best 'just bolt them in' brakes for the 1200 is the complete struts from a 76-78 model 120Y sedan, you just have to change the strut tops over. You also have to replace the master cylinder with a disc brake one, I sugggest trying to get a 13/16ths to suit disc brakes. This will make the brake pedal a little harder, but not enough that you'd need a booster. I've had this set up in a 1200 wagon with a fuel injected A14 & they were perfect. Anything bigger you need to change to different lower control arms, steering arms, balljoints & castor arms. As for the A15, just a small cam,a weber & extractors will make usable power, particularly if you don't start weighing it down with huge amps & woofers. The standard diff will hold, it'd reasonably strong, but if you abuse it it'll break.
To fit the engine you either have to find a late model 1200 ute crossmember, or fabricate some mounts to replace the standard mounts. I believe there are plans for the plates in the Wiki & on some members private web sites. The standard 4 speed will fit the A15. if you can find one of the larger A14 gearboxes you'll need to fabricate a gearbox crossmember, too. The standard tailshaft will fit any of the A14 gearboxes, but not if you change the diff to the larger H165. With fitting the A15 the only wiring change is you to move the alternator wires from the exhaust side of the engine over to the distributor side of the engine. You can either extend the wires back around, or unwrap the wiring loom, reposition the relevant wires & rewrap the loom with insulation tape. I've done it both ways, it definitely looks neater & tidier doing it the second way.

from memory the 120y brakes fit onto the 1200s the front disks anyway but dont quote me.. thats all the brakes guy said. and datsun didnt make a16s dude they had up to a15s.. so yeah as mike (dundee1000) said it might be bored out. the best mods would really be exhaust a cam an electronic dizzy and a nice set of twin carbys or 32/36 webber.

hey, ive got a tidy coupe and want to turn it into a little project nothing to big. maybe just stick in an a16, duel side draft carbys, exaust and brakes.
i just have a few questions and it would be great if anyone could help me out

1. does an A16 fit into a 1200 without the need for massive amounts a fabrication work?

2. what kind of brakes fit onto the 1200? to replace the drums

3 what are the best and easiest mods to beef up the 16 a litte?

really appreciate any feedback!
