Yeah anything is fixable but there is a point at which we can realize if i do this im never going to sell it cause i will never get back what i spent. Then you gotta decide will i or Won't i ? keep it that is. Rust is like cancer it can pop up somewhere else. You would really need to do a bare metal job on the whole car and when done keep it dry stored as much as possible. Will be listing a sedan for sale soon it has 2 semi bad bits of rust one spot in a door (Cut out ready to tidy and weld up) the other in passenger wheel arch.

So, the POR15....do you get that at a regular parts store or would you need to go through a paint/body shop supply store. And is POR a brand name?
I may need to follow your idea for my sill also...good stuff

As was said by Opel you're only looking at the surface condition. The work required for the underdash, wheel arch and A pillar is major, major stuff. You could patch it for $1-2K but you wont get someone to fix it correctly for that. Mr Rust will pay you a visit again soon. Have a look in some of the project shots (Pigdogs are good) will show you whats hidden underneath.

Alternatively if you look around hard enough for long enough 2k will buy you a much better unit (mega thorough inspection) and you'll have lots of spares too.

Some of that looks pretty bad but I can think of a self fix. first your going to want to get a bottle of POR15.

1. chip or sand away around the rust to expose any hidden rust under the paint.
2. remove any lose pieces of rust or "rust dust"
3. if at all possible get at the back of the rust, if it goes all the way through.
4. Now put the POR15 on all of the rust spots generously with an acid brush. Make sure you let it air dry completely and don't try to speed up the proccess.
5. use a fiberglass patch kit to cover the holes
6. lastly use bondo or body filler to smooth the fiberglass patches into the body
7. don't forget to prime and paint, on the back of the rust you can seal it with some silicone adhesive or caulking such as RTV

The rust in the car is basically mirrored on theother side. So if i wanna fix this my self im really gonna have to learn fast or my car will rust into a a pile of rubber and cloth.

If it is fixable for under a $1000 i would consider fixing.

do people think this is worth fixin or should i take my parts off and get me a new project?

Itz pretty bad, ill get some pics up 2moro but the rust is bad spots like below rear door latches, bottom of the windscreen, and cabin-firewall-wheel arche. I would be keen to learn as i could get a mig but im worried about the difficulty of some areas.

just do it yourself..might take longer but then you will have the satisfaction that you did it....it aint hard and there are plenty of people that could give you a hand im sure
