Only $1400 for wheels? If your Datsun is anything nice you won't mind spending more than $1400 on it.

Pricey yes, but I've heard of people spending more than that on a stereo or a set of wheels....

I find your lack of faith is disturbing Akinaspeedstar....(crappy star wars quote)

"These bonnet only weigh 3.3kg and the standard bonnet is 10.5kg" - quoted from the guy who makes it.

Seems I just added the standard amount of exaggeration that comes with a 1yr old memory.

who ever said you only use one meter square???
perhaps if you read it first , you will see that he was quoting what 1msq would cost. i never read anything to the effect of that is all you will need.

lol, you guys dont have much idea about these things...

they use kevlar in bullet proof vests not carbon fibre.

i dont know how far you think your going to get with that 1m of carbon matting.. dont forget there has to be the mould made for the skin AND under bracing. adding to that if your keeping it in the raw carbon finish then you need to get the weave 100% right, correct orientation its not as easy as you may think. its easy to muck up. muck ups are costly.

$1400 maybe a little much for a smaller item like this, assuming its wetlay. if its dry then its a great price.

if a steel bonnet is 10kg, a replica (with full under bracing) is prob more like 4-5kg.

fiberglass is much cheaper to produce and is a fair bit lighter. id only go carbon if you where keeping it in the raw finish (.e. not painting it) but it would prob look really poxy.

The carbon fibre ones were quite a lot lighter than the steel bonnet - I think steel = 10kg, Carbon Fibre = 2.5kg....the weights were something close to that from memory

to purchase a 1metre square piece of woven carbon fiber matting is $70au the resin to stiffen the matting is $110 for 10 litres so total cost for making a bonnet out of carbon fibre would be around the $300-$500 figure if you had the mould. I also think the $1400 price tag for a bonnet is a bit steep but i undrestand why it its so expensive due to the time consuming nature of the process.I dont think they are that much lighter than a standard steel bonnet in fact i think they would be heavierthan the steel ones personaly i prefer the standard gx steel bonnet

There was a mob making carbon-fibre to replace tiny little mudguards and side fairings made of plastic with carbon fibre stuff for motocross. for the 65cc they were trying to flog these bits for about 300$ a piece. No thanks! so a whole bonnet for that price is pretty reasonable even though it is a small bonnet.
