That's right.

Remember that when the crank is in that position, it may be TDC for #1 piston, or it may be TDC for #4 piston. Remove the rocker cover and check which valves are loose. The loose ones will be at TDC on the compression stroke.

To double check, place the timing cover on loosely, and the pulley. Then you can check the timing marks.

i'm so sorry but i get a lil'confused here..

so it doesnt matter where the position of the piston as long the crank key is aligned with the camshaft dowl?

That won't work. The white does are for aligning the chain marks.

The aligning in a straight line is the cam dowl and the crank key. Lay a straightedge along there to be sure, it is more accurate than just eye-balling it.

my friend manage to find an answer for my problems..referring to this link in this great forum

and i think this is the way i should do it..the only thing that is aligned is the white mark as shown in the picture..

It applies from 1966 to 2009 A-series engines.
