stock ports are fine for street use they say. If you port out then you could possibly lose some low down torque. you could polish the exhaust ports which is meant to reduce drag but dont do it to the intakes as a rough intake port encourages good fuel and air mixing. Remove casting marks.

What are you expecting out of this engine? that will determine things like porting.

sweet. Will a cortina carb do the job? Ive got the exhaust side of things sorted.. I build exhaust systems for a living. Will i have to do anything to the intake/exhaust ports? Are the standed ports big enough for that cam?

ok, as long as you have a reasonable carby and exhaust that will be fine. Uprate your valve springs if you want to rev. Youve done the right thing with high compression pistons as apparently a lumpier camshaft will reduce compression at low rpm from stock levels so you need to increase your compression ratio to compensate. Ive got dish top pistons but only because flat tops were around $600 for a set

The camshaft will be going into a A14 block with 1.00mm O.S high comp pistons, lifters are new. The head im using is off a A15 I think its a H89?

is it second hand? a second hand cam shaft will wear out faster than a new one because it wont be bedding in with freshly re-faced lifters. Well thats what they tell us anyway. I have a similar grind (0.295" lift in and ex, 293 duration in and ex advertised, 233 duration in and ex at 0.050") which was done by CSL cams in palmy north. Mods i did with it was refaced lifters and uprated valve springs.

With that camshaft you should at least run twin SU carbs or a decent downdraught weber or similar. set of headers and thats about it if you are just after a warmer street engine.

What engine is it going into? a12/14/15 and with what head?
