Here is the deal yesterday I was at Porsche Club track day and one of the entrants who had come down from Canada with a hauler full of Porsches, complimented my car and commented how fun old Datsuns are...............BUT of course he mentioned his buddy had a pair of 510's. While I think Z cars "may" in the coming years go through a period like American muscle cars where idiots pay way to much for them at auction............510's may see a little of this two. 1200's have just as much race history as 510's and Z cars but folks just seem to bypass them. So I expect the days of our buying good running 1200's for $350 are gone, but 30 years from know I'd expect a clean stock 1200 to be worth maybe 8-10K in todays dollars and 12-15K for a modded one. Things like CA Turbo Utes and coupes with race history maybe 15-20K.................the problem with Japanese cars is they make so many of them, they are well made and last forever and they have almost no snob appeal. In contrast to say a 50's Porsche 356, many of them now at six figures, which were hand built in low numbers and have become an iconic image. Compare the last of the 356's to a 1200 (the cars are only 5 years apart): a GX coupe was rated at 83HP vs 90HP for a 356SC model, a 1200 is 350lbs lighter, the 356 has a slightly higher top speed by about 5-6 mph, on equal tires they offer about the same road holding. I've driven a couple of 356's at the track and my 1200 will turn faster lap times than a 356 with the same level of prep. Why the 40-90K difference in price.................as I mentioned they never had any cool Hollywood movie character driving a 1200 and Porsche never made more than 8000 356's a year..............let's face we don't own hand made in small numbers sports cars, which is fine by me as a 1200 is much more fun to own.

they actually sell for over 20k? or are they just advertised for that?.
I find alot of the people trying for over 15 don't ever end up selling their cars. But I could be wrong I just don't seem to find anyone who pays that much for them.

well if aftermarket pannels and everything else are still availible ( i hope) then parts wont be the issue, but engine sapres on a a12 or anything might be harder to find and alot of these 1200 will neeed engine swaps to keep them running in 10 years time, so find a engine thats very common these days...

Appreciate slowly though....same sort of speed as something like a 4 door Torana.
They will get rarer but spare parts also go up in price - be a long time before a 1200 would be worth more than a couple of grand (stock at least). I wonder in 10 years time when we're all buy electric cars how old petrol cars will fare with rego, roadworthiness....
