Some years ago I put a 120y shaft in my ute, found when I put a load in or went over a big bump the shaft went right in and rubbed hard against the seal on the rear of the gearbox. Some tailshafts are slightly longer than ute ones and although they fit whilst the ute is stationary , can rub when driving. I put pictures up for Pepper a few months ago showing the different lengths.If you care to look back I think I put it under the heading "PEPPER LOOK"

Flange

H145: 35 x 50 mm bolt holes. 38mm inner circle

H150 Wild guess: 50 x 60 mm. Inner circle 50 or 60mm

H165 guess: Same as H150 ???

had another go today with success! got the tailshaft in, as whitesedan said really needed to clean the yoke (was fairly rusty) cleaned it up and it slid right in. also the ring and the bolts lined up perfectly with the diff so could it be a h150 from a 120y?

took some photos of the tailshaft aswell.

thanks

120Y came with three different tailshaft
* H145 for early 120Y
* BW for Australia-produced 120Y sedan
* H150 for others

H150 uses same yoke as H165

it says 120y on the tailshaft so was just guessing it was from 120y but ill take a photo tomorrow if i cant get it in.

might need another tailshaft

Check the ext housing seal is intact in the rear of the box where the tailshaft goes in, they are only about $10 new if you want to replace it. Clean up the yoke (slides into gearbox) grease it up and go for gold, might need to give it a twist to get teh splines to mesh. Then bolt the other end to the diff centre.

If it won't go in to the box you may have the tailshaft, ie might fit the diff but could be stanza or something so won't fit the box.

thanks guys ill check the ring tomorrow but it looks like it will be fine with the lining up of the bolts and ring, although it didnt seem to go into the gearbox very easily ...any tricks with that?

H165 from a ute has the lug for the rear brake splitter on the left, that looks to be a H145/150 diff from either a 120y or 1200. Does the 120y tailshaft line up on all bolt holes and fit snug on the centre ring.
