I had a base ball bad once and I have just taken my scrap metal including metal bars to the scrap metal dealers, but that sounds like the way to do it, will hunt around for the right tool for the job.
I am repainting the car but why is it that paint jobs after this mod dont last......

oh yeah for sure, done that plenty of times too, the rally car is like that. get a base ball bat and lever it against the tyre and the guard, slowly rotate it around working around the guard to lip it, then keep working it harder and harder to start stretching the gaurd out

factory paint survives it quite well, paint jobs done afterward tend to suffer cracking and flaking from it

Well thats a use for a hair drier I did,nt know about.
Rallycar I did,nt see your gards in your buld thred, but I want to turn you thr lip and a slight flare working the metal.
Maybe if I try the metal bar I can turn the lip over and keep going and make a small flare........

If you just want to bend the inner lip up inside the guard, I just heated around the area with a hairdryer then just gently ran around the guard with a length of pole gradually increasing the angle until it was bent right up. It didn't crack the paint when I did it.
