They can't charge you for storage if they are the ones not working on the car.
Make sure you get a written quote before they commence anymore work on it.

hhhmmm i know all about that ,my old mans car spend the last 2 years of its life in a panel/mechanic shop and cos the shop was owned by one of dads old mates he put the car at the back of the line and didnt move it from where we parked it for the magority of the time it spent there ,but then we went up there once a week to check on the progress and stuff started getting done ,at the start we gave him $15,000 and he sadi that would cover
Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes /4 pot front /2 pot back aluminium drop tank with earls 1/2 inch braided line front to back twin 3 inch stainless mandrel bent 'butler' exhaust with lukey mufflers 9 inch diff shortened with billet axles ,35 spline (brand?) stange gears (3.89) detroit locker smoothed and powder coated housing and at the end he wanted another $6,000 oh and he spent the first lot of money getting his car ready for powercruise instead of putting it into dads monaro !!!

i'll tell you all my story, just to have a decent whinge haha. i did as much as i could panel wise myself, but soon got sick of it because panel beating is a sh*t job haha. so took it to the locals, who'd worked on previous cars of mine, (i'd even bought his old VT wagon) thinking they'd have no dramas finishing it off. 6 months later, many frustrated friday arvos going down and trying to get em keen, and nope nothing done. fine, i told em to f**k off and went to another mob. 3 months there and barely anything done. so now my ute's been off the road for over a year and still not finished. No offence to any panel beaters here, but im yet to meet a decent one keen to work. just throwing my two cents in the ring haha sorry lads!

did he give you a time for completion.the only time he can charge storage is when the job has been completed as agreed and if u don't pick it up the day its ready. he has to let u know that storage fee now applies in writing once the job is finished,if u pick up job 1 week after completion and u where notified of storage fee then u have to pay, eg about $25 per day if under cover, about $15 a day not under cover. if job not completed and u chose to remove car, he can only charge for what his done, it not your fault he didn't complete the job in the agreed time. , i don't think he has a leg to stand on legally. cheers

Tell him it's going to another shop ( for painting or some sh$# ) and you need it back it two weeks, have you asked for a price on it yet? don't get stooged by a@$ hole tax!
Is he charging the storage fee either way or just if you take it now? You can view topic.
