like andy said, given that all 1200s started life as manuals anyway its not like it would be hard to do a "factory" conversion

Pretty sure it would have been done on request either by the dealership or a conversion company known to the dealership or one of its employees. Like many other models that weren't released in Autos in that era.

It's not listed in the parts catalogs, or any brochures.
Although I don't have the AUS and new zealand catalogs, I have both JDM catalogs (1974 and 1994 parts catalogs), definitely no automatics in Japan.
